Flaviar Advent Calendar (2022) - The Depths of Whiskey. Whiskey #2 - 50% abv.
The smell is pretty muted but I do get some burnt sugar, oak, and cooked corn. Adding water opens up some rye spice. Even after 30 minutes in the glass, I am still struggling to pick up much else, maybe it’s me.
The taste is an initial blast of sweet corn and fruitcake rye/dill spice. With some water, sweet corn and vanilla are more present. Nothing really stands out. The taste is pleasant enough but nothing else is going on.
The finish is medium - the sweet corn doesn’t hang around but the menthol of the spice does.
This is not a bad whiskey but it is a bit one-dimensional. I was expecting the water to open things up a bit but nothing really evolved. I enjoy the taste and the experience but I don’t think I would seek this out again.
