Flaviar Advent Calendar (2022) - The Depths of Whiskey. Whiskey #22. Product of Ireland/USA, 43% abv.
The smell is definitely Irish but a lighter version. Vanilla, oak, cereal, and a small amount of white pepper.
The taste is a nice balance of sour and sweet. Sour red fruit, like maybe sour cherries and sweet vanilla. There is more white pepper, some warming baking spices, along with cinnamon, clove, and menthol. There is a little bit of unpleasant waxiness that takes away from an otherwise decent experience.
The finish is medium. The pepper and clove are nice but that plastic waxiness is not something I enjoy.
This is a decent whiskey. It’s not for me but others may find this enjoyable. The waxiness is a trait some people like, so this would certainly be nice for some people, for me however, it’s showing up just enough that it would prevent me from making the purchase.
